With two ambulatory care centers, a tertiary care facility, and eight community-based outpatient clinics, GLA serves over 1.4 million veterans.  

The Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (GLA) stands as a beacon of extensive and comprehensive healthcare facilities within the Department of Veterans Affairs. Our West Los Angeles VA Medical and Sepulveda VA Medical Centers, both teaching hospitals, offer a comprehensive range of health services for Veterans, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a strong focus on education and research. GLA's affiliations with the UCLA School of Medicine, USC School of Medicine, and over 45 colleges, universities, and vocational schools in 17 medical, nursing, paramedical, and administrative programs enhance our healthcare capabilities. We provide professional training in most major medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties. We strive to discover knowledge, develop VA scientists and healthcare leaders, and create innovations that advance healthcare for Veterans and contribute to the nation's health.

Our unwavering commitment to research is a cornerstone of our mission; GLA boasts one of the most extensive research programs in the VA, encompassing six research centers of excellence. We offer Veterans the opportunity to contribute, participate in, and benefit from our work. Our ultimate goal is to use research to promote better health and health care for all. GLA's commitment to excellence is further underscored by accreditations from prestigious bodies such as the Joint Commission, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, American Psychological Association, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and Council on Chiropractic Education.

As one of the largest research programs in the VA, we host six research centers of excellence:

  • Center for the Study of Healthcare Innovation, Implementation, and Policy
  • Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center
  • Parkinson's Disease Research, Education, and Clinical Center
  • Cancer Center Research
