Opportunity Details

The largest integrated healthcare system in New Jersey, RWJBarnabas Health, and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Somerset, New Jersey, are seeking a dynamic, full-time Director of Emergency General Surgery (EGS) who will also serve as the Program Director of the Acute Care Surgery Fellowship. RWJUH is the flagship academic hospital of the RWJBH system and is a Level 1 Trauma Center verified by the American College of Surgeons. RWJUH is a world-class, patient-centered, academic medical center and one of the nation's premier centers for excellence in clinical care, biomedical research, and medical education.

Responsibilities will include oversight of operational, strategic, and administrative tasks, encompassing quality improvement initiatives, patient education, curriculum development, and the enhancement of policies, procedures, and workflows to improve the efficiency and outcomes of the EGS service line. The director will mentor and support our academic fellows, residents, APPs, and medical students, working closely with an experienced team of fifteen acute care surgeons that cover a full spectrum of acute care surgery, including Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care. The EGS will collaborate closely with the Rutgers Acute Care Surgery Research lab to help generate research.

Requirements:

  • Board certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery & Surgical Critical Care
  • Minimum of 5 years of expertise in the specific areas of trauma, surgical critical care and emergency general surgery with demonstrated leadership/strong interest in emergency general surgery and surgical
  • NJ licensed or eligible of licensure in NJ
