Anesthesia MD for Anna Jacques Hospital

Job Description:

Full-time Anesthesiologist position available at Anna Jaques Hospital (AJH) in Newburyport, MA.  Anna Jaques is recognized for delivering high quality community health care with an emphasis on value and patient satisfaction.  Our mission is to provide measurable high quality medical care, in alliance with our medical staff.

Anna Jaques Hospital is a 120-bed community hospital located 40 miles north of Boston in the picturesque coastal city of Newburyport.   A historic seaport with a vibrant tourism industry, Newburyport is known for many attractions including Plum Island beaches, Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and Maudslay State Park.  There are excellent schools, a vibrant downtown with great shopping and restaurants, a beautiful waterfront, and pristine natural beaches.

When fully staffed our anesthesia department is comprised of seven anesthesiologists, eight CRNAs, and one anesthesia support tech. Some of us work less than full-time, however doctors are expected to all take equal share of call.  We cover five operating rooms, four endoscopy suites and provide sedation in the hospital-based Comprehensive Pain Center. In addition, we provide obstetrical anesthesia for over 700 deliveries annually with 24/7 in-house anesthesia coverage.

Our anesthesia clinicians handle an average of 9,000 cases per year.  Cases include orthopedics, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, breast surgery, ENT, routine healthy outpatient pediatrics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, podiatry, urology, pain management, cardiology, and interventional radiology.

Anna Jaques joined the New England Baptist Orthopedic Program on December 11, 2019. This initiative strengthened our already robust total joint replacement program by providing standardized protocols from pre-op to post-discharge.

Anna Jaques Hospital is treasured by the community we serve and by all who work here.  It is a friendly place, and we all strive to maintain a culture of kindness, warmth, and respect for one another.  Patients and staff enjoy the comfort of a small community hospital and simultaneously benefit from the clinical and logistical support of the larger BILH network.

Call at AJH:

  • Weekday Call: Three 24-hour in house shifts per month with post call day off.
  • Weekend Call One 24 hour in house shift per month.
